Connecting a world-famous DJ with his fans

UK-based DJ and producer James asked Bluecadet to create a site that reflected the intensity of his live shows and his innovative use of technology, but would also be easy to update on the fly since he’s rarely in front of a computer.

we delivered

We tapped new avenues of connecting James with his fans via Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr. We gave him a simple but powerful content management system built on Drupal, and we gave everyone everywhere an immersive, interactive site that captured the experience of James’ shows around the world.

a seamless, cinematic experience

We played short clips from a hand-held video camera to introduce each of the site’s pages, with James’ unique mixture of House and Breakbeat music playing in the background, giving users the vivid illusion of being inside the DJ booth.

updates from anywhere

To keep the site fresh, we integrated a dynamic content management system with Twitter, giving James the ability to update the site from his phone.

the voice of the crowd

We also did something that was new at the time: we opened the door to contributions from James’ fan base by pulling in their photographs from Flickr, their posts from Twitter, and their videos from YouTube.

Familiar patterns now, but back then they had to be built from scratch.

the outcome

James’ new site won Best Music Site at SXSW.

It connected him with his fans in real-time. Whether he was spinning a rave in Miami or sitting on the beach in Mallorca, they felt like they were right there with him.
